The 'Take Out' exhibition consists of three projects — 'Enlightenment', 'An Eye See' and 'Hear My Voice' which dealt with an encounter with women coming out of the cycle of violence. Through creation and projects one can see how art becomes a tool of expression and healing and gives a personal and unique voice.

 

The phenomenon of inter-marital violence crosses classes and ages and is manifested in many ways: physical, economic, verbal, sexual, mental. The creators of the works in this exhibition seek not to reveal their identities, but only their stories. The creators of the exhibition do the same for other women and want to spare them even some of the suffering they themselves went through.

 

The projects

'Brightening'

​

A project that deals with the difficult consequences of life alongside a northern violent owner in the series of symbolic images that make up the photography exhibition 'Brightening'. The images were taken by older women, over 60 years old, during group therapy in phototherapy.

The group therapy included weekly sessions, during which the women processed, using simple cameras, the difficult experiences they went through and still go through. Now that they are no longer young, they dare to look back to their past, but also forward to the future, that is their personal and that which belongs to us all, as a society.

This project was done at WIZO — the Center for the Treatment and Prevention of Domestic Violence, Jerusalem.

'Eye sees'

​

The project was born out of the understanding that the work of art allows for healing and gives an inner compass to the creators. The project included a series of workshops when it was a combination of the artists and the treating team as active participants in the workshops and was a significant factor in creating an atmosphere from an equal and non-hierarchical place. The emphasis in the workshops was on the use of materials and technique and not around a specific topic. The encounter with the material and with the artists as a group opened a channel for connection with hidden points in the mind.

The project is the result of a collaboration between your own studio group and the Yad Sarah Family Center.

 

'Hear my voice'

The exhibition 'Hear My Voice' is part of the 'Empowering Women' project and the Bezalel Academy. It was built out of an understanding of the importance of providing tools to women who have detached themselves from the cycle of violence in their lives and giving meaningful place to their feelings and the process they are going through. The creative process included an individual couple meeting between a student and a woman. Each couple created a foster representative in which she was reflected a long way, which she did when she left the circle of violence and said about it. Both parties, both the women and the students, talked about the significant contribution they received from the creative process and from the joint meetings and the joint exit to the public space.
